Welcome to Iqbal Pocket Park
We promised you something special and, despite the heavy rain, we've got it planted out. The play equipment is also now in place. Once the summer arrives properly, things will green up and grow, to bring Iqbal Pocket Park alive with the buzzing of bees, fluttering of butterflies, and happy voices of the young children.
It's not our Park; it's yours! It belongs to the community, and so we'd like to ask you to join with us in keeping it looking special.
Our special park is already attracting wildlife. It's buzzing with bees, hoverflies, and butterflies; and many local people now enjoy relaxing in this little oasis!
The park itself was funded by a Pocket Park grant from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. The landscaping was carried out by Liam Doherty of Crega Landscapes, a Peterborough-based company.
We held a very successful community barbecue on 6th July, which saw the opening of the park for residents.
The children's play equipment, provided for younger users has proved very popular. It offers a safe place where toddlers can play, under the watchful eye of parents who can now sit and enjoy the display of flowers surrounding them.
Thank you to Peterborough City Council, who funded the installation of this play equipment by DALROD. It looks great!
In the space of little over 6 weeks, the patch of rough grass that used to sit outside the Centre has been transformed into somewhere special. We're so grateful to Liam for his dedication, to Helpston Nursery for supplying such fantastic plants, and to the wonderful volunteers from our weekly gardening club who dug and planted like crazy (in the rain, too).
There's so much to see. Why not come and sit, relax and enjoy being surrounded by nature? You'll love it!
We offer full colour and B/W laser printing and scanning services here at the Centre, including printing direct from your phone.
Prices are 60p per sheet (colour) and 20p per sheet (B/W). Discounts are available for larger jobs. Drop in to discuss your requirements.
Women on the Move
We've been awarded a small grant from the Big Lottery to support a group of women to run their own fitness classes: what they want, when they want.
Yasmin Siddique from YS Training has started our weekly women-only fitness classes, Mondays between 10-11am, here at the Centre.
Guaranteed to get you fit and guaranteed to be fun, the classes are available at a cost of £3 per session (just turn up) or £10 per month (payable in advance).
The overall aim of the project is to support women to improve their fitness by shaping their own programme.
For more information, contact Yasmin by email:
Can you spare an hour or two each week?
We're looking to recruit a team of volunteers to help:
welcome visitors to the Centre
answer the telephone
help with basic admin tasks
prepare rooms for meetings & events
In return for your help, we'll support you to learn new skills and build your confidence.
