WANTED: new Board members
Are you committed to supporting improvements in our local community, to working in partnership to deliver opportunities for local residents, to being part of a team that can shape programmes that engage people and help them to develop new skills?
If so, then we need to talk...
We're looking for new Board members to join Gladstone Connect.
You'll need to attend quarterly Board Meetings and take on some specific projects / work areas to support the Centre Manager and our team of volunteers.
This is an exciting opportunity to get involved, and we welcome applications from anyone in our diverse community. For an informal chat, please drop in at the Centre and ask for Richard.

Welcome to Iqbal Pocket Park
We promised you something special and, despite the heavy rain, we've got it planted out. The Gladstone Connect garden is a haven in the city centre, boasting a fantastic array of wildlife attracting plants including fennel, lavender, mullein, lady’s mantle and a huge range of tasty herbs. Community First (Peterborough) and the Allama Iqbal Centre have worked in partnership with volunteers throughout lockdown to maintain the garden so it can be enjoyed by local residents.
It's not our Park; it's yours! It belongs to the community, and so we'd like to ask you to join with us in keeping it looking special.

Our special park has been attracting various wildlife. It's buzzing with bees, hoverflies, and butterflies; and many local people now enjoy relaxing in this little oasis!
“This is a garden for the community and we want them to use it, enjoy it and be part of it” said Allama Iqbal centre manager, Michelle Bush Batty, “There are so many ways people can help, from adding a painted stone, weeding, watering and planting. Anybody can learn to garden and tending plants reduces stress levels, gives you a sense of pride in your community and helps you meet your neighbours.

The children's play equipment, provided for younger users has proved very popular. It offers a safe place where toddlers can play, under the watchful eye of parents who can now sit and enjoy the display of flowers surrounding them.
Thank you to Peterborough City Council, who funded the installation of this play equipment by DALROD. It looks great!

During lockdown, community helpers and volunteers have come together to create a garden of wonder and amazement! With the support of Wildheart UK we have installed taster pots and we have developed an urban fruit forest to invite people in. This is a garden when you will never hear the words "hands off!"
Dr Caterpillar, built from recycled parts by Up The Garden Bath as a farewell gift for centre manager, Richard Ferris, is filled with herbs which have been used for centuries around the world to aid relaxation, improve skin conditions and boost immunity. The plants have been carefully curated by Rebecca Jackson, Clinical Nutritionist and Herbalist from WildHeart UK.

There's so much to see. Why not come and sit, relax and enjoy being surrounded by nature? You'll love it!

We offer full colour and B/W laser printing and scanning services here at the Centre, including printing direct from your phone.

Women on the Move
It's happening!
We've been awarded a small grant from the Big Lottery to support a group of women to run their own fitness classes: what they want, when they want.
Yasmin Siddique from YS Training has started our weekly women-only fitness classes, Mondays between 10-11am, here at the Centre.
Guaranteed to get you fit and guaranteed to be fun, the classes are available at a cost of £3 per session (just turn up) or £10 per month (payable in advance).
The overall aim of the project is to support women to improve their fitness by shaping their own programme.
For more information, contact Yasmin by email:
